Brief History

Universitas Gadjah Mada was founded on December 19, 1949, making it the first national university established by the Republic of Indonesia after independence. The name Gadjah Mada is taken from the famous Majapahit Prime Minister known for his Palapa Oath to unite the Indonesian archipelago. The establishment of UGM was the result of the founding fathers' struggle who wanted an independent and quality higher education center. The main campus is located in the Bulaksumur area spanning 360 hectares, making it one of the largest campuses in Southeast Asia. Over more than 75 years, UGM has produced two Indonesian presidents, dozens of ministers, governors, and prominent business leaders. In QS World University Rankings 2026, UGM achieved its highest ranking ever at position #224 globally, rising 15 places from the previous year.

Admission Tips

Target minimum UTBK score of 700 for popular UGM programs, as the 2024 accepted average was 702.48 (highest in Indonesia)

2

Utilize all available admission pathways: SNBP, SNBT, and UM-UGM. Don't rely on just one pathway as competition is very tight

6

Consider programs with lower passing grades but good prospects like Statistics, Geography, or Food Technology if primary target isn't achieved

UM-UGM (40% quota) is UGM's independent selection with 4 sub-pathways: CBT, PBUB (achievement), PBUTM (underprivileged), and Tridharma Affirmation. The independent pathway has the largest quota and allows selecting more than one program.
